TWIN SIZE, APPROX 77.5″ x 77.5″; topper is about 76″ long
My late grandma also amassed a beautiful collection of woven vintage bedspreads, often by Fieldcrest and Bates. Some people refer to these as “chenille” but they are not what at least I consider to be chenille at all – but rather are woven, heavier weight than a lot of the chenilles were. At any rate, here I have for you the epitome of fabulous French shabby chic – enchanting old-fashioned cabbage roses making a statement on an antique pink background. This reverses to a contrasting white-focus also as shown, and includes a gorgeous topper you can use at the footboard to warm your toes on chilly summer nights, or as a showcase piece over the pillow area. A hard to find matching set.
This has the “Bates” branding mixed right in the weave as shown, and is an absolutely perfect fit on my high twin bed – do note that it has scalloped factory cutouts for a four-poster bed at the lower corners however. There is no overhang at the foot/headboard areas which is awesome if you have a footboard so you’re not stuck trying to stuff the spread between the mattress and the footboard.
This is very old and again, is a wonderful example of shabby chic – aka lovably imperfect (aren’t we all) with some age // storage discoloration most noticeable on the reverse (white focus side). I tried to capture this for you in the final photo by holding the piece up to a sunny window; however I am afraid it didn’t show up as well as I would have hoped. It may lift with a good soak in your favorite mix, but just be aware that it is there.
